Training this week went pretty well, but had a hiccup in running. Sometime in my sleep on Sunday night I tore off a huge flap of skin below my left achilles tendon. Decided to skip two runs to let the injury heal (pretty painful against the running shoe). Since I’ve still got plenty of time before the KC Tri, I’ll just end up repeating this week again. Otherwise I got in 3 swim workouts and 2 rides. I also met with my triathlon coach for the first time this week. I’m definitely going to be thankful for his guidance in this whole process. He thinks race experience is a huge part of being able to do well in the 70.3 distance. So it looks like I’ll be adding several more longer tri races this season. Should be pretty cool.

I did well on the nutrition front too. My lovely partner commented earlier this week (we were out for her birthday at the Cheesecake Factory) that I get in a mode with food where I won’t deviate at all, even as a celebration. She’s certainly right on, as I go to great lengths to stay under my calorie goal and eat good foods. I think this has to do with the fact that I’ve never been very good at moderating intake of “bad” foods. I hesitate to throw around the word addiction when it comes to sugar, but I’m darn close. It’s better for me to avoid at this point than moderate. I don’t think either extreme is necessarily the way to go, but without question, the abstinence extreme is healthier. I think one of the toughest things for me will be learning how to re-introduce these things (without going to extremes) later on in the process.

Just out of curiosity, will you be wearing a green shirt in all of your updates? Also, what, no mention of the bike?

On the green shirt, possibly. On the bike, thanks for spoiling the next post.
