About

Professionally, I am the Director of University Housing and Assistant Dean of Students at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. In addition to my place of employment, Rockhurst is also an alma mater. I earned my B.A. in English from the University of Kansas, a M.A. in College Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia, and a M.B.A. from Rockhurst.

In 2011 I weighed just under 260 lbs. I made a decision to get fit and use triathlons as my outlet. I write about triathlon training. A LOT. I’m actively training for Ironman Kansas 2012 (a half ironman event – 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run). I intend to crush it. I’m starting to near my goal weight of 190 lbs. I will probably celebrate with an extra piece of fruit. I’m a party animal like that.

Personally, I’m partner to Kristen, a very talented blogger, tech geek, and fellow housing professional. Together we have a very spoiled dog and a precocious 6 year-old. We’ve recently arrived at the conclusion that teaching our son to argue his point as a means of communication and problem-solving was a big mistake. I write about lots of things on this blog: triathlon, happenings in the world of higher education, family, personal interests, and anything else that comes to mind. If nothing else, I hope you’re not bored.

You can reach me any number of ways. Check out the twitter (@grubester) and email buttons on the right sidebar for one-click access. Additionally, I’m an active public speaker. Check out my Speaking page for information on how to book me for your event!
